Julien & Roxane Régnier-Krief sont de merveilleux luthiers de guitare basés à Nérac, à une quarantaine de minutes de chez moi dans le sud-ouest de la France. J’avais eu l’occasion de les croiser une ou deux fois auparavant. Au début du mois de septembre, je reçois un e-mail de Julien qui me demande si je serais partant pour enregistrer une video sur une de ses guitares pour le Festival d’Issoudun qui, cette année, sera exclusivement « online » en raison de la crise sanitaire. Quelques jours plus tard, je récupère un magnifique modèle parlor à l’atelier JRK. De retour à la maison, je m’installe dans mon spacieux couloir pour faire la video et la troisième prise est la bonne, juste comme ça, comme si j’avais joué cette guitare depuis toujours !!! Cet instrument est non seulement magnifique de par sa facture mais aussi sa prise en main est incroyable. Quant au son, c’est tout simplement magique avec en prime un sustain qui permet de vraiment prendre son temps tellement tout est connecté musicalement. Donc merci à vous deux pour cette belle opportunité d’enregistrer cette superbe balade de Duke Ellington sur un instrument de très haute qualité, un vrai régal. Au sujet de cette guitare : - modèle 0, d'inspiration Martin du début du 20ème. - la finition est directement "copiée" d'un modèle Martin Hudson Street de 1837. - le barrage est une variante JRK de chez Martin, les bois utilisés ont tous au moins 70 ans de coupe. - la table est en Sitka (Alaska), le manche en acajou du Honduras, le fond en palissandre. ——————— This video has a story ! Roxane and Julien Régnier-Krief are amazing guitar makers. They live in Nérac, in the South-West of France, 40' from where I live. I just met them briefly on one or two occasion. One day I received an email from Julien asking me if I was interested in doing a short video on one of his guitar for the Issoudun guitar festival that takes place exclusively online this year because of the virus issues. Few days later I picked up a beautiful parlor model at their workshop, setup the audio / video recording gears at home and after 3 takes, that was it!!! This guitar sounds absolutely amazing and is so easy to play, I felt like I was playing it for years. So thanks to Julien and Roxane for giving me the opportunity to record this beautiful Duke piece on this crazy good guitar.

Fifth study : "Waltz for Mr. Satie" I originally wrote this little waltz for the piano 25 years ago, with Erik Satie in my mind. He has that very French and weird style, a mix between impressionistic flavor and definitely Parisian until the bones. I keep from him this obsession of ridiculous and funny poetic titles.
